October 2026 Newsletter - Touring, Documenting, and Learning at Juristac
Greetings friends!
We are excited to share that Amah Mutsun Tribal Band (AMTB) Chairman and historian Ed Ketchum was recently honored to be a part of Save Mount Diablo’s documentary, Juristac: The Amah Mutsun Come Home. In the film, he shares the history, culture, and spiritual significance of Juristac, a sacred California landscape that is more than open space; it is a place of healing ceremonies, traditional ecological knowledge, wildlife, and deep cultural memory.
The film explores an extraordinary partnership among the AMTB, the Amah Mutsun Land Trust, and Peninsula Open Space Trust to protect more than 6,000 acres of Juristac. Together, we are working toward a future where Indigenous stewardship, habitat restoration, and wildlife connectivity can flourish side by side.
Featuring stunning landscapes and thoughtful conversations about conservation, history, and belonging, Juristac: The Amah Mutsun Come Home invites us to rethink our relationship with the land—not as something to own, but as something to care for.
Produced for Save Mount Diablo, this story highlights how protecting the Diablo Range also means honoring the people who have called it home for thousands of years.
