Dear AMLT Community,

We have entered an exciting new era at the Amah Mutsun Land Trust. With the permanent protection of tooromakma hinse nii (“Bobcats Wander Here”) at the end of 2025, followed closely by the protection of a huge portion of Juristac by our partners at Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), we now shift our focus further into Mutsun territory and begin the important work of deepening and defining our partnerships, access, and stewardship of these sacred spaces. 

We began working with POST as soon as their acquisition of Sargent Ranch was finalized, to support Tribal access and exploration of Juristac. Our special relationship as partner land trusts provides an exciting opportunity to work together as we all come to better understand the needs and possibilities of this special place.

Beginning next month, we will be collaborating with POST to provide Tribal Member tours of the property. We are concurrently working with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Council and Tribal Members to plan a formal celebration of our return to the land. We coordinated around this and many other land-related opportunities at the first of our 2026 monthly “First Fridays” Tribal discussions. 

We look forward to more as we continue to learn and grow into this moment together. For now, we are deeply grateful to those who are part of this current momentum and to all of those who worked before us to lay the foundation for these incredible victories, from the Amah Mutsun Tribal Council, Tribal Band Members, and Protect Juristac Coalition supporters, to individuals like recently-retired Tribal Chairman Val Lopez, who pushed forward against incredible odds for so many decades, to our dedicated partners at POST. Together we are building a better future for generations to come.
