August 2026 Newsletter - Caring for Sacred Spaces and Building Community

Greetings friends,

As summer fades, we turn our attention to fall planning and the exciting new land-based activities just beginning to blossom.

This is an especially meaningful time for AMLT as we continue to deepen our relationships with the lands entrusted to our care. At tooromakma hinse nii, our first owned property, we are cultivating our stewardship of this special place and our connection with the land. At the Tribal Use Area near awnicmintac (formerly known as the Nyland property), we are also developing stewardship plans to guide the long-term care and health of these lands, grounded in the knowledge, values, and priorities of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band.

At Juristac, new relationships and longtime friendships continue to deepen as we expand opportunities to collaborate with our friends at POST on Tribal visits and activities. We are thrilled to be moving ahead with exploratory tours and habitat mapping. Our connections with wildlife have been perhaps the most exciting part of our reintroduction to this most sacred space. From mountain lions to badgers, golden eagles to tar flies, this land is alive with our animal kin.  

Even as we focus our time and energy on Juristac, we are also thrilled to be building our connections in and around Chitactac. We have had the pleasure of spending time on the land with Tribal leaders, focusing specifically on opportunities to protect sacred cultural sites, reconnect with the landscape, and dream about the exciting opportunities to come.
